COVID-19, which has affected over a million persons of the world’s population and presence in over 200 countries has seen different tactical measures taken by each country to contain the spread of the virus.
Ghana current with over 200 confirmed cases and 5 deaths at the time of writing this article has seen a couple of individuals helping the government to fight this virus in their capacity.
Joshua Opoku Agyemang in his capacity as the President of IoT Network Hub Africa, internet of things community with over 5000 membership in Ghana with chapters across the regions of Ghana, and 10 Africa countries and resources available him, has developed several solutions which currently are about 60% done and ready for piloting, testing and mass production.
IoT Network Hub’s core values of Learning, Sharing and Building are seen clearly in their current Initiative (Hack CoronaV) to combat the virus in Ghana.

COVID-19 PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
0NE: TOUCH-LESS OR CONTACT-LESS WASHING TAPS
The technology uses a sensor to identify a hand when its close to the outlet then the system automatically opens the tap for the water to flow. The same system has been built for liquid soap and sanitizer dispensing.
TWO: LOW-COST AND REUSABLE 3D PRINTED FACE MASKS
These face masks come with replaceable and recyclable filters.
THREE: LOW-COST FACE SHIELD
This is to prevent coming into contact with an infected person’s cough or sneeze droplets in the atmosphere especially for our front liners (Medical Professionals).
FOUR: AUTOMATED VENTILATORS
An automated ventilator for supplying oxygen to victims of the virus under care in hospitals.
FIVE: AI POWERED APP
An Artificial intelligent App that seeks to provide real-time updates on Coronavirus cases, help in contact tracing, help report suspected cases, sanitized the public on safety tips and basic preventive measures.
All the above solutions are in line with preventive measures to help contain the virus and not a vaccine or cure from the technological perspective and at this stage requires huge support.
The support will go into piloting and testing the solutions after which mass production is done to benefit all. We call on government and firms to collaborate and support hoke grown solutions to ensure we make use of our human resources in these trying times.
A sovereign country after more than 60 years cannot continue to be dependent on its colonials leaders. An investment in our human resources and belief in young people is our sure bet to becoming a force to be reckoned with.
